As coaches, we understand students may be participating in multiple sports, however we expect students to attend practices and run or participate in another form of aerobic activity for the non-practice days noted on the schedule. Cross Country is a team sport and in order to optimize the best team dynamic we do have a practice attendance standard we need all athletes to adhere to. Additionally, it is imperative that student athlete's understand the importance of balancing their academics with extracurricular activities. Please take time to carefully consider the practice and competition schedule in determining your child’s commitment to the season.
Each athlete is required to sign a athlete behavior expectation form, please read below for our coach and athlete expectations:
Athletes will arrive on time and ready to run.
Athletes with carry a positive attitude with a willingness to learn, put forth effort and receive coaching.
Athletes will treat themselves, teammates and competition with respect and support; indicated by positive language, interactions, and habits (i.e. supporting teammates, cheering, shaking hands, congratulating teammates and competition). Any inappropriate behavior can result in suspension from play or the team and will be communicated with parents.
We meet for practice at Irving Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00 PM. SHARP. and Saturdays at Leif Erikson Trailhead in Forest Park at 9:00 AM.
Athletes will attend practice consistently. If athletes are unable to join practice or need to leave practice for any reason, including going to the bathroom, they must communicate with the coaches.
Parents will support their child according to the child’s level of interest.
Athletes will arrive in appropriate running gear (including running shoes and weather appropriate clothing: shorts or tights, athletic top and rain repellent jacket for inclement weather)
Athletes will be given return uniforms during their first practice, and are expected to return them no later than October 27th. (Athletes will bring an extra pair of clothes to change into after the races). Parents are financially responsible for missing uniforms.
Athletes with complete paperwork and payment will receive a team sweatshirt.
